On the day the zombies broke out, Li Anqi hurried home clutching a large bag of instant noodles, bloodstains on her sleeve.
Violent banging and zombie roars erupted outside.
Small and terrified, she curled into a ball, hugging the instant noodles as she crouched in the corner, trembling.
""Pretty pathetic, huh? If I were still alive, I'd knock them out one punch each.""
I said this near her ear, and she flinched instinctively. I consciously moved further away.
""Alright, I won't come closer. I'll stand further away, but I'll stay with you.""
I don't know how long the banging lasted, but the zombies suddenly dispersed. Immediately after, a man's agonized scream came from around the hallway corner. I recognized that voice; it was Li Anqi’s neighbor.
He must have been infected too.
I wanted to hold her, to protect her, but I couldn't. I was just a useless ghost.
And so, Li Anqi barely survived at home for a while, but her food and water were running out."
