A New Group of Unknown Powerhouse
…
Meanwhile,
Juin's group was fighting against the seven remaining demons, killing them off one by one, when they suddenly opened a portal and disappeared into them.
"What…" Luca asked while panting significantly. Those demons were not that strong, but they could not afford to release huge wave of soul power. Doing so might attract unwanted attention. Hence, for the last 30 minutes or so, they had mostly been advancing two steps and retreating one step.
They had to rely on Cyrus, who was the only one capable of killing without using Soul Power, thus dragging the fight longer.
"Something must have happened to their leaders…" Cyrus mumbled as he wiped his bloodied claws on the shirt of one of the dead demons.
"Ignore that…" Juin said as he wiped the blood off a cut on his face while panting softly. He looked at Wolfe, who was standing there quietly. "Wolfe, are you alright?"
"He didn't wake up from the entrancement at all," Caelian said as he looked at Wolfe with wary eyes. "I wouldn't go near him until we break him out of his spell."
Luca glanced at him before warning Juin who was already stepping towards Wolfe, "I'll listen to Caelian if I were you."
Juin glanced back at him, then at Caelian.
"Lucifer?" he whispered.
"Caelian's from a succubus-incubus line, and his bloodline is strong, so he should know well when it comes to such spells," Lucifer said with a nod of his head.
"But we all woke up from the spell."
"Did you realize that the Horny guy didn't participate in the battle much?" Lucifer asked all of a sudden.
His words made Juin realize the same thing. "I thought he's scared. And good play on the word."
"His master wouldn't have sent him if he's such a coward. Those demon underlings of his weren't strong, yet they kept fighting despite being injured. I suspect that he was controlling them with his voice," Lucifer said in a thoughtful expression.
Juin frowned slightly and looked at Caelian. "Caelian, I don't know much about entrancement spells, but can someone use a voice spell to enhance one's ability?"
Caelian thought for a second before nodding. "Yes, that's entirely possible. It's not easy to do, but it's not impossible. What are you thinking of?"
"I'm just wondering…" Juin said before turning to look at Wolfe. "How can we wake him up?"
Just as he said that, Wolfe suddenly blinked and turned towards them, causing all of them to be on alert.
"W-Wolfe?" Juin called out as he readied a spell in his mind.
"What happened just now?" Wolfe frowned. He seemed to be in some sort of pain as he held his head. "Where… Where are those guys?"
"How are you feeling?" Juin asked nervously.
"Headache…" Wolfe groaned as he slapped the back of his head a few times. "Like I'm having a hangover."
"How would you know what hangover is like?" someone asked.
"Of course I know," Wolfe mumbled. "I snuck into…"
He looked up and realized that Cyrus asked the question, so he stopped talking. "Kids shouldn't be so nosy."
Just as he finished his words, he suddenly turned around and vomited.
"I'm way older than you, puppy," Cyrus said in disgust and he jumped back slightly. "And a weakling like you shouldn't talk so much. You're the only one who remained trapped."
After wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, Wolfe looked at Juin, who smiled awkwardly. "No… No way… Those kids managed to break out of it first?"
"They were the first ones to break out of it," Luca said in a matter-of-fact tone as he dusted himself and looked at his watch. "Anyway, now that you're back to normal, we have to get moving… There are less than 100 people left."
"What?" Juin gasped and immediately looked at his watch. It was true. The numbers indicated that there were less than 100 people left.
An intense pressure suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Everyone shivered at first, before they started feeling as if doom had arrived.
"W-What…" Luca grabbed his chest as he fell on one knee. It was a terrifying feeling like he were about to be stomped on by a giant and he had no means to escape. He felt this before, when he was fighting Juin. No, when he was fighting against that demon in Juin, and even then, the pressure of the aura was a lot lesser than what he was feeling now. But when he glanced at Juin, the guy merely looked at him with a confused expression.
Juin's confused black eyes told Luca that he was still him, so this aura did not come from him.
Caelian, Cyrus, and Wolfe were all in the same condition, and they were all grabbing their chests as if they could not breathe at all. Beads of sweat were pouring out of their every pore, drenching their clothes profusely.
"What's wrong?" Juin asked in confusion. He could sense some pressure, but it wasn't as scary as what they were making it out to be. It shouldn't make them all fall in one swoop. "Don't joke around!"
Just as he said that, he looked up and saw a reddish cloud stop in mid-air. The reddish cloud then moved towards him, causing him to take a few steps back, but oddly enough, just before it hit him, it stopped a few meters away.
Ha… des, is that you?
Juin thought he heard something faint in the air, like someone was calling for Hades, but Lucifer, who was watching the reddish cloud with his eyes narrowed, didn't seem to notice anything.
The reddish cloud circled around the confused Juin a couple of times before turning into a red streak of light and disappearing in the blink of an eye.
"What the…" Before he could even wrap his head around it, a small black meteorite dashed in the direction that the red streak of light went towards.
The moment the black meteorite disappeared, the boys were able to breathe properly again. Shivering, they collapsed on the ground and glanced at Juin accusingly.
"That's not me!" Juin immediately defended himself when he felt their accusation through their gazes. "I swear!"
Caelian pushed himself up into a sitting position and looked at Juin. He then looked in the direction that those two went in. "Those are beings that we shouldn't provoke…"
"Do you know what they are?" Juin asked as he looked in the direction that those two "beings" went in.
"Not really, but…" Caelian glanced at Juin and narrowed his eyes slightly. "Why are you not affected?"
At this, everyone else stared at Juin.
"No idea," Juin shrugged nonchalantly.
"I have seen you fought before. You have a weird strength in you; in fact, if we all gang up against you, I still can't confidently say that we will win. Even so, you are not that strong to resist that pressure," Caelian said in an analytical tone that was well above his age. "I can see that, at least."
"Juin is unique," Wolfe said nonchalantly as he got up and took a deep breath. "He has always been able to resist the aura and pressure exuded by the strong ones."
"That's probably because of the demon in him then," Caelian said after a thought. He looked at Juin with a more respectful gaze now. He had heard of Juin long before they met, and at that time, he had thought of him as nothing but a mere vessel for some demon. However, when his own demon, Surix, told him of the encounter with Lucifer, Caelian started to change his perception of Juin, albeit slightly.
"Be careful of him…" Surix's voice appeared in Caelian's mind, as if he knew what Caelian was thinking of. "His demon has the ability to detach himself from his vessel's body, as well as merge himself to him. This boy's body is definitely on another level than yours."
"Mmhmm..."
To Caelian, there was no way anyone could ever defeat Surix. However, after experiencing that earlier, he had a feeling that maybe he should heed Surix's warning.
…
"They are getting more and more suspicious of you…" Lucifer said as he floated next to Juin, who was trailing behind everyone else.
"I'd be more surprised if they could be this strong yet so dumb as to not have any suspicions," Juin mumbled as he kicked a random piece of dark rock that was in his way. He watched as the rock tumbled a few meters away before disappearing into a mound of sand.
He nearly gagged when the sand suddenly parted and showed rows of teeth as it chomped down on the rock. However, seeing that the sand monster was harmless, Juin ignored it.
"What are you going to do?" Lucifer asked.
"What can I do?" Juin sighed. "We are traveling together, and we will basically be spending all our time together until we leave this place. Besides, it's not like you are a secret. They all know that I have a demon in me." 2
"A demon," Lucifer said, emphasizing the first word. "It's fine as long as they continue to think that you only have one demon in you. You know how much danger you can be in, right, if they were to find out about the other guy?"
"Yes, Lucifer," Juin said with a sigh. He had been constantly reminded of how his life could be taken away the moment he relaxed, to the point that he could no longer care. "Enough about me… Those two things… Beings. Or whatever the hell they are…"
"Immortals."
