However, before she could, he had already grabbed her hand. "It's nothing." He plastered a small smile on his face. "Let's head back, okay?"

"Okay." With one last nod, she pushed him away.

Ning Qianyu, however, had just removed Mu Shengchen's coat and revealed his tattered hospital gown. Everyone had to gasp in surprise. There were marks on his back, but they couldn't clearly see what it was.

Why was he wearing a hospital gown? He was hospitalized? Everyone was immersed in their own thoughts as they watched their retreating figure.

After returning to the ward on the 20th floor, Ning Qianyu glanced up at him. "Why did you hide this from me?" Her voice held no anger, only curiosity.

"I wanted to give you a surprise." He smiled.

"It was a good surprise and all, but...after what you've just said...look at how sad everyone became," she murmured, mostly to herself. Although they were all mean to her, they had done it in the best interest of this nonexistent child. Somehow, she could understand it too.

Mu Shengchen scoffed and wrapped his arms around her waist. "You're always so silly."

"How am I silly?" She pouted.

"Nothing," he said softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ears. The corners of his lips curved into a perfect arc. "Pack up. I've already asked Ye Xi to go through the discharge procedures beforehand."

"Discharge?" She blinked, drawing away from his hold. The thought of his scars flashed at the back of her mind. "You still can't leave the hospital–"

"I'm getting better anyway. Besides, I can just head back to the apartment to recover."

"But the doctor didn't say you can leave the hospital," she insisted. The doctor had said something about his injuries being infected, right? "Why don't we stay here for the night and see tomorrow?"

His eyes sparkled mischievously. "Will you let me go home if the doctors say so?"

"Yes." Ning Qianyu's answer was straightforward. She didn't even know that she was already falling into his trap.

"All right, let's find a doctor now."

She already felt something was wrong, but she just didn't know what. Knowing that Mu Shengchen wasn't going to let her live this down, she nodded and followed him into the attending physician's office.

"He's good to go," the attending physician had said as soon as he saw Mu Shengchen's recovery.

"But Doctor, are you sure? He can go?" Ning Qianyu furrowed her eyebrows in concern.

"Mr. Mu's wounds are recovering well the past few days. As long as you don't get them wet and remember to apply ointment on his wounds every day, there wouldn't be any problems," he responded.

"Oh, all right." With one last nod, she pushed Mu Shengchen out of his office. "Thank you, Doctor."

Under Mu Shengchen's bright smile, Ning Qianyu packed her things and prepared for the discharge procedures. Once Ye Xi had finished, he drove them straight to the apartment. It was only when she had gone back did she realize that the man had already talked to the physician beforehand. That meant that they already had a previous understanding of sending him home!

She gazed at her husband's sleeping figure before helplessly shaking her head. The best she could do now was make sure that he could better recover at home...with her.

That night, Mu Shengchen received a call from Yan Rui.

"Young Master Chen." His clear voice sounded from the other end of the line. "I found out something about the anniversary."

"Who did it?" Mu Shengchen frowned.

"They were from the Green Dragon Gang, the ones who were left alive. They were the ones who stayed in Luocheng International," he stated. "Remember when we took over the project on the West? The Luocheng International wanted a chance to strike back, which was why they allowed the Gang to infiltrate our anniversary celebration and place a small explosive on the second floor. It was a warning."

"Hm..." Mu Shengchen tapped his fingers on the mattress. "I should've expected that... They wouldn't back down so easily, especially now."

"Well? Are we going to take the loss just like that?"

He was silent for a few seconds before he responded, "Watch over Luocheng International and wait for my orders. The best we can do now is attack them by surprise."

As soon as he finished speaking, Mu Shengchen hung up.

Although the Green Dragon Gang had been wiped out in one swoop, there were still a few who had survived the attack. The gangs worked in the dark, while the Shengxiang Group was an open business. "Yes, let her in." Gu Si opened his eyes slowly.

Gu San soon brought a woman in. She was wearing a suit with a first-aid kit in hand. As soon as she saw Young Master Gu lounging on the sofa, her face broke into a smile.

Gu Si simply nodded in response.

"Damn, you really know how to hurt a gal's feelings, don't you?" Her hands moved quickly around her medical kit as she regarded the man with a roll of her eyes. "You're hurting my heart."

"You've been dealing with corpses all day." He cocked up an eyebrow. "Do you really think I'll be fazed by you?"

"All right. Touché," she admitted, brushing her hair from her forehead.

"Hurry and do it," he commanded.

"You should really know better than to mess with a woman holding a scalpel." The beautiful woman gnashed her teeth together as she held her blade up in the air. "Aren't you afraid that I'll cut you right here, right now?"

Gu Si still remained impassive. "You can do it, but I couldn't care less."

"You really are like our godfather. Perhaps you're his son, after all," she teased.

"Or perhaps you're his daughter. The two of you shared the same traits."

Gu Si and Gu Qin had been living with their godfather ever since they were born. If someone had said that they were the godfather's children, then no one would've doubted it. However, in reality, they were just a pair of throwaways. Their parents didn't want them anymore and wanted to live a better life ahead.

"So I heard that Godfather already found his first love?" Gu Qin winked.1

"Hm."

"What the hell?" She snorted as she tore down the bandages without mercy. After all, they were all already used to the pain that this life had held for them. "Aren't you surprised? I mean, who can change the man's cold personality?"

Upon taking a closer look, she cocked an eyebrow. "Fuck, whoever bandaged this was pretty good. I heard from Gu San that you wouldn't even call for me when you got hurt, so someone else must have sutured it for you."

Only when she had torn the bandage apart did she see a few sutures around his wounds. It was pretty long.

"And so delicate as well. Did a girl suture it?" Gu Qin frowned. "You know her?"

She had turned from a heartless doctor to a gossipy aunt within seconds!

"Are you really going to interrogate me?" Gu Si rolled his eyes. The woman was yapping ever since she had gotten here. All he wanted was to send her away. "If that's all you have to say, then you can get up and leave."

Gu Qin sighed in response.

"Fine, I won't ask anymore. Besides, she's actually not that bad–the wound's well treated. You know, if you marry a doctor, I bet our godfather would be pleased," she mused to herself. "But then I remember that he wanted you to marry..."

While she was talking, Gu San had hurriedly pushed the door open.

Gu Si glanced at Gu San and knew something big must've happened. Otherwise, the old man wouldn't have slammed the door open in such a hurry. Everyone fell quiet as the atmosphere turned cold.

Gu Qin saw that the two men were planning something, so she immediately went to work. Bandaging it up again, she packed her things and stood up. The process took her only two minutes.

"All right, I won't bother you anymore." She turned around. "After all, I know you find me annoying."

"I don't find you annoying," he said suddenly.

The corners of Gu Qin's mouth curved upwards before she finally left.

Once the woman had left the building, Gu Si hooked his finger and signaled Gu San to come in. "What is it?"

"Young Master Gu, there's still a few members of Green Dragon Gang running about in B City. We investigated further and saw that they were also responsible for the explosion in Shengxiang Group." There was a pause before he said, "Long Hua asked you to eliminate the survivors."

"Shengxiang Group?" Gu Si blinked. He had actually been very familiar with the Shengxiang Group, not because of their status, but because of how peculiar the corporation was. No one had seen their President before. In fact, all their matters were being handled by their Vice President only.

"Why did the Green Dragon Gang attack the Shengxiang Group?"

"The Green Dragon Gang is now occupying the rear end of Luocheng International–said that there's been a disagreement between them and Shengxiang Corporation. It also seems like Shengxiang Group had also found out who was responsible as well."

Gu Si poured himself a glass of wine from the coffee table. Swirling the glass around, he slowly said, "When the Shengxiang Group attacks the Luocheng International, we'll do our part and get rid of the survivors."

"But...why are we helping them?" Gu San furrowed his eyebrows, not fully understanding the length of his boss's orders.

Gu Si tilted his head. "Just do as I say."

Gu San knew better than to ask twice. "Of course, Sir."

"So the person behind Luocheng International is him. Now as for who was taking advantage of who..." Gu Si downed the glass in one swoop before relaxing on his sofa. He would find out soon enough.
